In Linnaeus' Footsteps: Orchids, Fossils, and Birds of Southern Sweden
May 29 to 31st – Möckelsnäs Herrgård (Mockelsnas Country Estate)
It is a good investment to leave your ordinary life, meet and spend time together in a different context. Mockelsnas Herrgard and its surroundings is a perfect place for inspiring relaxed holidays, from which you´ll take bright memories with you and keep for a long time. The estate has 54 rooms and 100 beds in total. The rooms are beautifully appointed in nice and soft colors and comfortable beds with extra thick mattresses. Each room has a TV, telephone and free internet.
The hotel and flowery manor garden is situated by the lake Möckeln, in between shady beech woods. The nature parks Kronan, Taxås and Höö with their enclosed pastures, groves, winding paths and dramatic ravinesneighbor the property. Their ancient biotopes give shelter to rare and preserved herbs and animals that the Swedish legal right of access to open country invites you to discover. Next to the hotel you also find a new built Orangery in memory of Carl von Linné (Carl Linnaeus). His birthplace Råshult is situated nearby.
May 31 - June 3rd – Solberga Gård (Solberga Farm)
Solberga Farm is located on the island of Oland, about 5 kilometers from Borgholm. Wander around and look at the beautiful, old buildings which date from the mid 19th century which has recently been carefully renovated. Get to know the farm animals and the hundreds of different vegetables and herbs that are grown here.
Garlic, asparagus and pumpkins are the specialties of the farm and all of the production is organic and following the directions of KRAV (Swedish organization which sets criteria for organic farming) since 1988.
The accommodation is placed in old-fashioned and peaceful surroundings with many reminders of the mid-1800s when the farm was built. At that time it was one of the biggest on Öland. There is plenty of outdoor space here where you can play and relax or wander around among the organic vegetables and farm animals. This will be our base when exploring the island.
June 3rd to 4th – Aspö Lotstorn (Aspo Pilot tower)
Aspo Pilot tower is situated on the eastern side of the small island of Aspö, with a view of all four points of the compass. It has five floors, each floor with one room, and is about 20 meters high. On a clear day it is possible to see as far as to the ”Utklippan”, the most furthest island of the Karlskrona archipelago. Take a moment to relax in the top view room and enjoy the fabulous view of the archipelago and the view of the unbroken horizon in the south.
The tower was built in the end of the Second World War, was inaugurated in 1945, and then used as pilot tower up until 1988. The rebuilding then started in 1996 and a year later it was finally ready and in use in the tourism industry as a well appreciated accommodation. It has attracted a lot of attention since then from media and press, as for being such a unique accommodation.
June 4th to 6th – Agda Lund Bed & Breakfast
Welcome to Kivik and Agda Lund with a view of the sea and the “Appelrike”. Rolling hills, shady beech forests and picturesque fishing hamlets with long sandy beaches – Kivik and Osterlen easily entices ones lyrical thoughts. Artists and authors alike have in all times tried to portray this characteristic nature in some way. And indeed there are countless depictions of both Kivik and Österlen. However, the best way to enjoy it is in person, at the place itself.
As a guest you sleep comfortably in quiet rooms with bathroom en suite. There are Coffee and tea making facilities in every room. Since Agda Lund once was a fruit packing magazine, each room also bears the name of an apple, pear or plum.
