About IBEX

The International BioExploration Society (IBEX) is an exclusive, non-profit global ecotourism and educational network that promotes ethical and sustainable exploration of unique regions of our planet through bioexploratory tours and related activities. IBEX was established by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the University of Illinois, and North Carolina State University in collaboration with 34 universities abroad. Highly experienced and knowledgeable guides lead IBEX bioexploratory tours that expose participants to the amazing natural and cultural diversity of our planet. IBEX’s goal is to make travel to new destinations a truly enjoyable, enriching, and friendly experience. Bioexploratory tours are much more than site visits; they are journeys of discovery, adventure, and learning.

IBEX is a 501(c) (3) Exempt Organization with 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi) Public Charity Status and contributions to IBEX are tax deductible.

The logo is a stylized prehistoric cave drawing of an ibex originating from France. Ibex is a wild mountain goat of genus Capra distinguished by the male's large recurved horn. Ibex had wide distribution in the mountains of Europe, North Africa, and the Near East and was hunted by prehistoric men for at least 35,000 years. It is a common subject of prehistoric art, such as cave drawings. It symbolizes strength, endurance, and conquest as it is often seen proudly standing on top of the most impregnable mountain peaks.
